About One Billion Hours

Our Story

Every movement begins with an idea.

For One Billion Hours, that idea was simple. Time is one
of the most valuable things we can give.

Not everyone has the opportunity to make a financial contribution, but almost everyone can give an hour. An hour spent restoring a river, joining a community cleanup, sharing knowledge, or supporting a project that leaves a place better than it was before.

That’s the idea behind One Billion Hours: people coming together through collective service to care for the places that have cared for us for generations.

Why One Billion Hours?

The name is a reminder of what’s possible when people come together with a shared purpose.

A single hour may not seem like much, but millions of hours given by people around the world can restore waterways, strengthen communities, and inspire others to take part.

We want to expand beyond awareness campaigns & cleanups to help facilitate a real relationship & vested interest in waste upcycling.

One Billion Hours isn’t a target to reach overnight. It’s a vision of what can happen when service becomes something we all share.

MEET THE FOUNDER

As I was going daily to the Ganga to pray & honor my recently deceased dog I saw many people coming to the Ganga…offering prayers, genuine sentiments, altar offerings, and shockingly…trash.

The same waters they had just prayed to with devotion, were then being littered upon in the same visit.

I felt so so tied to the prayer of these waters, meeting the river each day with my own offering of devotion & knew I wanted to help restore this sacred site. & I had a thought:

“There are one billion people here, if each person gave one hour we would have One Billion Hours towards clean waters both externally & internally.”

That’s the prayer, that’s why we gather.
